Of jean shorts, sparkles, and hair cuts

Can plain old jean shorts ever be cute?  These darned things have been sitting in my closet for several years and, I admit, they haven't gotten much wear.  Today I decided I needed to either wear them or get rid of them.  So naturally, I wore them.  I also got my hair cut and colored this morning (FINALLY), so overall it has been a pretty good day so far...

What I'm Wearing:
Top: Threads 4 Thought (via Maurices)  | Shorts:  Faded Glory  | Shoes:  Simply Vera
Cat Pendant Necklace: Versona Accessories

I'm feeling very sparkly in this outfit today, which isn't usually my style. Virtually everything I'm wearing has some kind of sparkle, from the sequins in the shoes, to the sparkles in the shirt detailing, and the rhinestones on my kitty pendant.  It's actually kind of a fun change! For me, the jury's still out whether or not I hang onto these shorts. At least I got SOME wear out of them today!  They have to EARN their keep in my closet, since I'm trying to "thin the herd" (so to speak) in anticipation of the move to my NEW HOUSE.

Speaking of the new house...I get the keys TOMORROW!

I still can't believe it! I'm not sure how much posting I'll be able to do over the next several days, because I'll be spending a lot of time in the new house painting and moving smaller items over.  Move-in weekend isn't until later on this September, but I'm planning on using the next couple of weeks to make it JUST the way I want it before I fill it with furniture.

The feline overlords will, I think, be well pleased with their new digs.  For now they are sequestered upstairs in my parents' house (where I'm currently living), well away from the resident dogs.  I think they'll appreciate having more room to roam!

In addition to getting my keys, I am also attending the wedding of an old, dear friend (we met when we were assigned as locker partners in the FIRST GRADE.  How time flies!).  Clearly the next few days are going to be eventful, to say the least!  Does anyone else have any fun plans for this Labor Day weekend?

Wish List: Graphic t-shirts

I am a TOTAL sucker for quirky t-shirts, and recently discovered a fabulous online store called Skip N' Whistle that sells some really cute, unique tops! As a crazy cat lady, I heartily approve of their selection of cat shirts.  These are a few of my favorites from their current selection:

I'm definitely going to have to purchase a few of these in the future.  I mean, LOOK AT THAT CAT IN THE INDIAN HEADDRESS!  How adorable is that?

I actually already have a few fun graphic tops in my closet right now (...but would LOVE to add a few more to my collection...CAT INDIAN HEADDRESS SWEATER, GET IN MY CLOSET!).  I'm currently going through an owl phase, so I'm partial to this t-shirt I wore in an outfit post last year:

1
What I'm Wearing:
T-shirt: Thrifted | Skirt: Vintage (thrifted) | Belt: Chiang Mai, Thailand Walking Street
Tights: Stein Mart | Shoes: Blowfish Vance Booties

Owl + glasses = TOTAL ADORBS. Am I right?

Speaking of adorable, I'll leave you with this shot of Calvin and I cuddling in bed.  Am I a lucky cat mom or what?  Even if he DOES hog an entire side of the bed...

Please note, I did not receive any financial compensation or merchandise from Skip N' Whistle for this post. Although if they decided to be kind and send me a cat shirt, I would love them forever. Just sayin'.

EDIT:  I just realized that Amy over at Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins recently blogged about Skip N'Whistle, too! Check out her cute styling of the Unicorn t-shirt.  I love it!

Blouses and Pirates

It has been a really long time since I last participated in "Inspiration Monday" over at Two Birds (hosted by the lovely Megan and Nora).  This week's inspiration post featured Selena Gomez, and as soon as I saw it I gasped.  I may not have a military vest, but I *do* have a blouse that is in a similar style...
AND I NEVER THOUGHT TO WEAR A BLOUSE LIKE THIS!

Oh Selena, you clever girl.
So without further ado, here's my more feminine take on Selena's style.

What I'm Wearing:
Blouse: B  Jewel (TJ Maxx)  |  Jeans: House of Derreon (Macy's)  |  Necklace:  Vintage   |   Earrings: Gift from friend (World Market)
Sunglasses: Gift from mom   |  Shoes: Tahari (DSW)

I've been wearing this blouse buttoned up and tucked into slacks at work, so THANK YOU Inspiration Monday for providing me with a new way to wear this top!  I actually rather like it.

Today was your usual crazy Monday at the vet clinic.  It's always busy on Mondays for some reason, and today was no exception.  Cruciate tears, corneal ulcers, big-dog-little-dog attacks...you know, the usual.  I'd love a good ol' kitten or puppy litter exam...where are THOSE when you need them? ;)

In other news, I've been taking FULL advantage of living with a piano again.  There's nothing like de-stressing after a long day at work by banging away at the keyboard! I think I've finally gotten the hang of "He's a Pirate" from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.  What do you think?

My next piano project will be "Concerning Hobbits" from The Lord of the Rings.  Yeah...my inner nerd is showing a little bit here...but Howard Shore's musical score is seriously fantastic!  I'll post a video once I'm semi-competent at it.  Do any of my readers play any instruments?

Kitty paws and musicals

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Jenna and Jessie (TJ Maxx)  |  Jeans:  Grane |  Necklace:  Maurice's
Sunglasses: Gift from mom   |  Shoes: Dr. Scholl's (DSW)

Today I'm rocking my new necklace from Maurices.  Also, I've discovered that my camera and I do NOT get along outside; most of these photos came out way too bright.  Sigh.

I have a confession to make...I have a fetish.  Not just any fetish...a CAT PAW fetish!  Seriously, is there anything cuter than cat paws?  And I'll let you in on a little random factoid: cats sweat through their paw pads!  They do this both when they're warm (and need to cool down), AND when they're nervous.  Just like when you or I get sweaty palms when we're nervous about something, cats get sweaty palms too!  Isn't that adorable?

GAH!! Too cute!!!

In other news, today I discovered that Stephen Moyer (of True Blood fame) can sing.  He has been chosen to perform opposite Carrie Underwood in the live NBC broadcast of "The Sound of Music" as none other than Captain von Trapp.  Originally I was worried, until I found these gems from Stephen's run as Billy Flynn in Chicago last month:

By the way, he was part of a cast that included Ashlee Simpson (as Roxy), Samantha Barks (as Velma), Drew Carey (as Amos), and Lucy Lawless (XEEEEEEENA!  Ahem. I mean, as Mama Morton).  Ordinarily I'd be annoyed by Hollywood names in musicals like Chicago, but this?  This I would see.

I have to admit though, I am a little worried about Carrie Underwood playing Maria in "The Sound of Music".  Girl can sing, but hopefully she can leave the country twang out of Do-Re-Me.  What do you think?

Feathers and sequins and steals...OH MY!

What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Cynthia Rowley (TJ Maxx)  |  Pants: Blank NYC  |  Purse:  Francesca's Collections
Sunglasses: Gift from mom   |  Shoes: Simply Vera

I am currently obsessed with tank blouses...seriously.  I purchased a whole bunch of them from TJ Maxx right after graduation and have worn them almost daily to work.  Because I wear a white lab coat, these light weight fashionable blouses are PERFECT to wear tucked into a nice pair of slacks.  Now I've also begun wearing them with shorts or skinny jeans on my days off, and they have QUICKLY become my favorite go-to tops!  I love the playful feather pattern on this particular blouse - it goes with so many different outfit combinations!  (P.S. My shoes are covered in black SEQUINS.  I wish they showed up better in the photos, but you can take my word...they're pretty awesome.)  See how another fashion blogger styled this top here.

Today I spent the morning meeting with my insurance agent (boooooring) and then doing a little shopping around town with my mom.  Maurice's is one of my favorite stores, and I managed to walk out with nothing more than this adorable necklace which was marked down to $4.99.  Talk about a steal!  (And of course Calvin decided he wanted in on the photo taking action.  Thanks, buddy.)

I also found this adorable decorative plate at a consignment shop.  It will go perfectly on top of my piano once I move into my new home!

Featuring cat-butt-photo-bomber Calvin.  Because, you know, every photo needs a cat butt.

I plan on spending the rest of my evening relaxing, gearing up for a full day of work tomorrow. Wednesday is my surgery day, so I'll probably do a little studying in preparation for tomorrow morning's procedures.  Surgery and anesthesia still make me a little nervous as a new grad, so I want to be on top of my game.  Enjoy your evening, friends!

Bold and Beautiful: Skirt edition

3
What I'm Wearing:
Shirt: Moon Beam (Gabriel Brother's)  |  Skirt: Forever 21 (thrifted)
Necklace: Hand-me-down from friend   |  Shoes: Dr. Scholl's (DSW)

I'm relishing this day off as an opportunity to wear a skirt.  Unfortunately skirts are pretty much the most impractical thing you could choose to wear as a veterinarian in practice.  I spend a LOT of time on the ground, at my patients' level, in an effort to make them feel more comfortable with me.  After all, I'm a stranger in a white lab coat smelling of other creatures...NOT the most inviting thing in the universe to a dog or cat!

Earlier today my parents and I took a lovely bike ride through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (which required me to change into shorts...but I digress).  I am so incredibly lucky to live close to such a national treasure, and it felt WONDERFUL to be outside!

Tomorrow I have a couple tough cases waiting for me at work, thus I am determined to enjoy every single second of this Sunday!  I plan on spending my evening watching the TRUE BLOOD season finale.  Hey, we all have our guilty pleasures, right? RIGHT? ;)

So let's hear it - what are some of your guilty television-viewing pleasures?

Easy as life.

Oh my.

So much has happened since my last post, I'm not even sure where to begin.  I'm in the middle of one of THOSE periods in life... You know. A time when pretty much everything changes.  In the whirlwind of these past few months I've hardly had time to breathe, much less update.  Which is sad, because I SO love this blog and the community of bloggers I've met through it!

But that's the great thing about the internet, yes?  That I can always return, and this little corner of the internet will always be mine to shape and create?  So hello there.

And now, it's time for MEGAN'S SUPER LIFE UPDATE PHOTO EXTRAVAGANZA!

1)  I graduated in May.  Dream achieved.  I'M A VETERINARIAN!!!!!!!!!

2)  After graduating, I spent a week in Cancun, Mexico celebrating it up with my sister.  In our case, that meant lots of time sitting on the beach, reading.  In the shade. Because we both burn in the sun.

We also zip-lined, which was AWESOME, and TERRIFYING, and DID I MENTION AWESOME?

Yep. Awesome.

3) After Cancun, it was time to pack up my apartment and move back to my hometown.  This meant a lot of heart wrenching good-byes, as I had to farewell so many incredible friends.  I mean, how often do you find an incredible group of people who not only accept you unconditionally, but also throw awesome spy-themed birthday parties?

You may call me Dr. Black Widow
Yeah. I miss them like whoah.

4) Moving back to my hometown meant moving back in with my parents. Which means I have new roommates.
Jack (left) and Sir Brighton (right)
They're kind of adorable.
My cats are less than thrilled about the move, especially since Brighton really does NOT get along with them.  I, however, try to make it up to them every chance I get.  So if you see a crazy lady out walking a cat, don't worry about it. It's probably me.

My feline overlord is well-pleased.

5)  I started my new job at a small animal veterinary hospital in June...and I've loved pretty much every second of it. <3

6)  Oh yeah. I also bought a house.  Closing is in three weeks, and I'm super-incredibly-extremely stressed out about it. But how blessed am I, seriously?!

Between graduating, moving, starting a new job, and buying a house...I've been a little busy.  So what's new in YOUR life? :)
