<br />
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Blouse: Milano / Skinny Jeans: Salt Works NYC (they're PURPLE, I promise) / Shoes: Lifestride (DSW)</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
The other evening, I was outside enjoying the mild spring weather pulling the pesky weeds that have decided to sprout up en masse in my flower beds. I donned gardening gloves for the task, and as I worked I suddenly felt some mild discomfort within my right glove over the back of my wrist. I thought perhaps a rogue thorn had slipped in, and ignored it as I worked on. After all, I was on a roll and it was only a mild discomfort...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Until it turned into a very distracting, very acute stabbing pain.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And when I pulled off my gardening glove, I discovered a little caterpillar half in his cocoon and half out, stinging away at my wrist in protest for my premature disturbance of his metamorphosis.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So, now you know: caterpillars can <i>hurt</i>. I'm fairly certain it was the irritation of his little hair tufts rather than any bite. Even so...OUCH.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Sorry little buddy for disturbing you...I don't know how you ended up in my glove!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
(And no, I didn't wear this outfit outside gardening. This was my outfit of choice for a lovely family dinner at my parents' house. Steaks on the grill, beer, and family...what more could a girl want?)<br />
<br />
Besides my accidental caterpillar contact, I haven't been up to a whole lot. Work has been kicking my butt lately; I come home and basically collapse on the couch with a glass of wine and my Apple TV each evening. In fact, this pretty much sums up my feelings on life:<br />

<span style="text-align: left;">I know this is almost a week late, but I took a few minutes to snap some photos of my Easter Sunday outfit and just realized I never posted them. D'oh! </span><br />
<br />
<img alt="e1" height="1014" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3820/13954277983_75001e77c4_o.jpg" width="500" />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Blazer: Soulmates (thrift) / Lace Tank: Verve Ami / Skirt: Lauren Conrad (Kohl's) / Boots: Bare Traps (DSW)</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I picked up this lovely tulle skirt from Kohl's a couple months ago, and Easter seemed like the perfect opportunity to wear it. I love the gold elastic waistband, and I thought the floral print in my thrifted blazer matched the pale rose color of the skirt nicely. The air still had a bit of a chill in it, so I wore my favorite heeled boots to complete the look. And now I want to fill my closet with tulle skirts, because they are JUST SO FUN and FEMININE!<br />
<br />
This evening I plan to spend relaxing with friends at a local wine bar listening to some live music. Tomorrow, I FINALLY tackle the lawn! Does anyone have any special plans for the weekend?<br />

<span style="text-align: left;">Is there anything more comfortable than a wrap dress? And is there any better excuse to wear earthy tones than EARTH DAY? Nope and nope, so say I.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span>
<img alt="1" height="808" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5068/13972412844_fc7b1e5623_b.jpg" width="400" /></div>

<img alt="4" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7070/13968785891_8a72208bfc_o.jpg" width="500" />
<br />
<br />
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Wrap Dress: Old Navy (old, thrifted) / Cardigan: Forever 21 (old, thrifted) / Leggings: Marshall's</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Shoes: thrifted / Fedora: vintage</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Today I had every intention of mowing my lawn. After all, that's the responsible thing to do as a homeowner on your day off work, right? Instead, Ohio weather had other plans. We've had lovely spring thunderstorms rumbling through the area all morning, effectively keeping me inside as my little lawn gulps up the rain showers and rebelliously shoots up taller and taller. Oh well. Somehow the rain seems fitting for today, EARTH DAY. Everything seems a bit greener today, a bit brighter, and a bit more ALIVE.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So even though I'm stuck inside watching the rain fall (and my yard grow longer), I'm not complaining. After all, the earth is essentially giving me full permission to stay inside with a cup of coffee and a good book. And what could one possible complain about in that?<br />

The Spring Pantone Color Challenge draws to a close with FREESIA, also known as the-color-everyone-thought-would-be-purple-but-isn't. Pantone has decreed that freesia is a vibrant in-your-face YELLOW.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="11" height="747" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7430/13905969101_ffd5126dd9_o.jpg" width="400" />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I realize these shoes have made an appearance rather frequently as of late, but they are just SO comfortable and versatile!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="22" height="629" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7198/13905978422_8899b7a266_o.jpg" width="400" />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Blouse: The Limited (thrifted) / Cardigan: Worthington / Jeans: a.n.a. (thrifted) / Shoes: LifeStride (DSW)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="33" height="412" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7123/13905971806_d3c922c83f_o.jpg" width="500" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here's the thing about yellow: I am often tempted to pair it with navy blue, and have even walked out of the house in yellow and navy before giving it too much thought. However, I live in OHIO STATE BUCKEYE country, and the sight of NAVY and YELLOW together all too quickly brings to mind thoughts of THAT SCHOOL UP NORTH (COUGH - University of Michigan - COUGH). Technically their colors are "maize" and blue, but any yellow/navy color combination is enough to elicit a rather visceral reaction from the Buckeye faithful.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And so, because I bleed scarlet and gray, I am very careful to never, ever wear my yellow cardigan with a blue shirt. (As tempting as it may be. Because, you know, navy and yellow really DO look quite nice together...)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>"Don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, 'cuz we're from O-HI-O...!"</i><br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
Today's Pantone-inspired color of the day is HEMLOCK GREEN. I interpreted it as a kind of minty green, and pulled out my favorite pocketed "hemlock" and gray skirt to style for the occasion.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/11412607@N06/13832768653" title="1 by smoonempress, on Flickr"><img alt="1" height="806" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3767/13832768653_41e3bd5583_o.jpg" width="400" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/11412607@N06/13832768543" title="2 by smoonempress, on Flickr"><img alt="2" height="371" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3793/13832768543_60ba906442_o.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Blouse: Lauren Conrad (Kohl's) / Skirt: Mossimo Supply & Co. (thrifted) / </span><span style="font-size: x-small;">Boots: LifeStride (DSW)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
This look is something completely different for me. I typically always tuck shirts IN to skirts, but I thought the cut of this blouse made for a fun, loose, almost kind of edgy look. Besides, it bunched up really weird when I tried tucking it in, so out it stayed!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/11412607@N06/13832750645" title="3 by smoonempress, on Flickr"><img alt="3" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2915/13832750645_0383b687cb_z.jpg" width="298" /></a><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/11412607@N06/13833095464" title="4 by smoonempress, on Flickr"><img alt="4" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3729/13833095464_4bb6eeb2b2_z.jpg" width="357" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
The word "hemlock" immediately gave me flashbacks to my plant toxicology course in vet school. Believe it or not, I once sat through a 30 minute lecture on the dangers of hemlock poisoning in sheep, pigs, goats, and horses. Bottom line: it's bad news bears (I guess that's why they call it POISON hemlock, yes?). Thank goodness the plant apparently tastes terrible, so most critters will stay away from it. Oh, and here's a fun fact: the ancient Greeks executed Socrates with the juice of poison hemlock. So now you know.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
To celebrate hemlock and Socrates, here are a few of my favorite quotes by the old philosopher:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;">“Sometimes you put walls up not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.” </span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;" /></i>
<i><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;">“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” </span></i><br />
<i><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></i>
<i><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;">"</span></i><i style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;">To move the world we must move ourselves.” </span></i><br />
<i><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></i>
<i><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;">“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” </span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: georgia, serif; line-height: 18px;"><i>“Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.” </i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
Have a wonderful Friday, friends!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
The Pantone-Inspired Color Challenge week continues! Tuesday's color is Paloma, a lovely light gray. I wore this outfit thrifting with my sister the other day, and I must say it was quite comfy:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<img alt="5" height="438" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2827/13830936073_29c8b0dcc0_o.jpg" width="631" /><br />
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Shirt: Belle du Jour (thrifted) | Jeans: Grane</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Scarf: Old | Shoes: Merona (Target)</span><br />
<br />
<img alt="3" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7386/13830935843_0aed10dbfd_z.jpg" width="405" /><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Just a quick update this evening, as I am BEYOND exhausted. For an introvert, a day full of non-stop social interactions can be more than a little draining. Fulfilling, yes, but draining nonetheless. I need some time to reflect and digest on the evening before I share more about my first date. <br /><br />Instead, I'll just leave you with an excerpt from an incredible poem I recently discovered by the amazingly talented <a href="http://warsanshire.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Warsan Shire</a>:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 18px; line-height: 27px;">...And you tried to change didn’t you?</span><br />
<span style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 18px; line-height: 27px;">closed your mouth more</span><br />
<span style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 18px; line-height: 27px;">tried to be softer</span><br />
<span style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 18px; line-height: 27px;">prettier</span><br />
<span style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 18px; line-height: 27px;">less volatile, less awake</span><br />
<span style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 18px; line-height: 27px;">but even when sleeping you could feel</span><br />
<span style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 18px; line-height: 27px;">him travelling away from you in his dreams</span><br />
<span style="background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #333333; font-family: inherit; font-size: 18px; line-height: 27px;">so what did you want to do love</span><br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.themodernausten.com/" target="_blank">Modern Austen</a> and <a href="http://literatelystylish.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Literate & Stylish</a> are hosting a Pantone-Inspired Color Challenge this week, and I'm very excited to participate! Sometimes I just feel really uninspired staring at my closet, and these are just the sort of challenges that help me find creative new ways of wearing the pieces I already have.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Today's challenge: RADIANT ORCHID, <a href="http://www.pantone.com/pages/fcr/?season=spring&year=2014" target="_blank">Pantone's color of the year</a>. It is a brilliant, warm mix of purple and pink. Here's what I did with it:</div>

<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.404001235961914px;">I'm just coming off of a long 3-day weekend, which is always a little tough. The definitive highlight of my day was vaccinating a pair of 6-week old kittens this afternoon, who were tiny enough to fit in the pocket of my lab coat. I'm convinced there is NOTHING cuter than a kitten...except maybe TWO kittens. Both of the little cuties were orphan kittens, and the dedicated owner had bottle raised them. I'm always a bit worried about bottle-fed kittens, as they are some of the more challenging behavior cases I see later in life. There is something to be said for the boundaries mother cats teach their babies that we humans just aren't able to set for them. I'm hopeful that the two I saw today are on their way to becoming well-adjusted fur kids!</span><br />
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.404001235961914px;"><br />I am actually super excited to have tomorrow off, because for once in my life I have exciting plans that extend beyond doing dishes or entertaining my cats with laser pointers. I have a hair appointment at noon for a cut/color (MUCH overdue, I might add!). Afterwards I'm going consignment shopping with my mom, and then...tomorrow evening...I have a first date. Yep. Moi. Me. It has been a very long time since I've had a first date, so naturally the butterflies are wreaking havoc. Seriously, it's like a butterfly mosh pit rocker convention in there. Perhaps it's time for some tea. Anyone have any tips on settling these nerves so I don't end up an awkward jumble of nervous energy and, well, awkwardness?</span><br />
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.404001235961914px;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.404001235961914px;">P.S. I'm saving up for a new camera. Not just any camera: a DSLR CAMERA. Just you wait, world! One day grainy photos will be a thing of the past for The Fashionista Vet! </span></div>

Photo bombed by my cat Abby. Oh, the life of a crazy cat lady.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yes. Those are CATS on my cardigan. In my opinion, any outfit is instantly elevated by the appearance of little cat silhouettes:</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yesterday I helped an older gentleman say goodbye to his pet cat of 15 years. The old tom used to come around the man's bakery looking for handouts, until one day the baker took pity on the cat in the frigid winter temperatures and brought him inside. The rest, as they say, is history: the yellow tom had no interest in ever going back outside. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As together we said goodbye to the old tom cat, still purring even though his poor little body was racked with disease, the old baker tearfully said to me, with a smile, "Don't worry, doc. Animals have souls just like ours. I'm really not sad, because I'll see him again one day. Only not like this! He's gonna be healthy again, doc! Not like this...not like this." And the old tom passed away peacefully, purring all the while.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
People say to me all the time that the worst part of my job must be euthanizing animals. I can honestly say that, in most cases, it is not. "Euthanasia" literally means "good death", and being able to bestow a peaceful passing upon a suffering animal is often the greatest gift I can give my furry patients. Like the old baker, I believe there's more to come after we pass away - more for humans as well as for animals. And that, my friends, is an encouraging thought.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So goodbye, old tom. May you find some peace in that great big bakery in the sky. And if it's not too much trouble, save me a doughnut.</div>

Last week, as I was perusing all my old favorite fashion blogs, I happened to click on over to Megan and Nora's "<a href="http://twobirdsboutique.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Two Birds</a>" blog. They continue to host their popular "Inspiration Monday" link-up, and I'm very happy to participate once more in the tradition! This week's inspiration is January Jones:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was mainly inspired by the STRIPES in this cute dress, and decided to run with the pattern. Anyway, it's still way too chilly to even consider baring legs...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.404001235961914px; text-align: center;">
<i style="color: #555555; line-height: 19px;">What I'm Wearing:</i></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; text-align: center;">

<br />
Come to think of it, I actually don't own very many stripes. This pattern can be a bit tricky to wear, as thicker stripes tend to accentuate flaws around the midriff. And we don't need to bring any more attention to that area than needed, right?
<br />
<div>
<br />
Yesterday my sister and I spent the afternoon "herping" - that is, crawling around the Metro Parks turning over logs and stones looking for amphibians and reptiles. Not a very feminine activity, I know; we are definitely not "girly-girls"! The weather only very recently warmed up, so we weren't expecting to find a ton of critters out and about. However, our hunt was rewarded with a TON of red back salamanders! These are such fascinating little creatures, and it was truly thrilling to find them crawling around their dark, moist little habitats, harkening the arrival of Spring.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="salamander1" height="375" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3665/13679428843_8c5dd0030d.jpg" width="500" />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Usually we would only find one lonely little salamander chilling under a rock, but sometimes we would find several all living together in their own little salamander world:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="salamander2" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7425/13679430363_df64542f9c.jpg" width="375" />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I can't wait to go herping again once Spring is well and truly established. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to find some snakes next time!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
(Credit for the salamander photos goes to my sister, who took these photos wither her phone during our herping adventure.)</div>

<br />
That seems like an awfully un-American thing to say, doesn't it? But for a small animal veterinarian, those two days of the week hold a special significance. For whatever reason ( :: insert theory here :: ), these are often the busiest and most heartbreaking days of the week at work. I won't bore you (or depress you) with details, but suffice it to say this past Friday and Saturday were no exception to this general ho-hum rule of thumb. Tonight I enjoyed a nice, quiet evening of margaritas and enchiladas with my sister and brother-in-law, and threw together a super casual outfit for my foray into public (sans white coat, blood stains, and fur).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="1" height="800" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7122/13654820484_83075f898d_c.jpg" width="442" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.404001235961914px; text-align: center;">
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.404001235961914px; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Shirt: Thrifted | Jeans: Thrifted | Cardigan: Levi's Outlet | Necklace: Present from sister (I think from Kohl's?)</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: Arvo; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.404001235961914px; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Belt: Thrifted | Boots: Tractor Supply Company</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><br /></span></div>
To be perfectly honest, I threw this outfit together after I got home from work, and by the time I left for dinner I had thrown my hair up into a bun and changed necklaces. Am I the only one whose outfits tend to evolve as the day progresses?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="5" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7335/13654819574_cfc606a078_o.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<br />
On a different note, these photos also give you a peek into some of the things I've done to my piano room! The pig-jumping-into-a-lake picture over the piano always makes me chuckle. Although, seeing that most pigs can't swim, it kind of takes on a darker note and feeling when you realize that poor pig is probably committing suicide. (WHOAH, Megan! Depressing much? Sorry, ya'll...I guess I really AM in a dark mood.)<br />
<br />
Anyway, give your fur-babies a hug tonight, folks. It's a cold, sad world out there. Or just swing them over your shoulders in a backwards embrace of love. Whatever works.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Calvin may look highly annoyed in this photo, but he was actually purring. Quite loudly and enthusiastically, I might add. Yeah, he's an odd one.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RsWngHuNQ3k/Uzyrz212R5I/AAAAAAAABck/WrSbZ3am-VU/s1600/frozen.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RsWngHuNQ3k/Uzyrz212R5I/AAAAAAAABck/WrSbZ3am-VU/s1600/frozen.gif" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">It bothered <i>ME</i>, Elsa. It bothered me <i>a LOT</i>.</span></div>
<br />
I don't know about the rest of you out there on the interwebz, but as of a week ago I was about ready to pack up my bags and catch the first plane headed ANYWHERE SUNNY, WARM, AND NOT OHIO. This past winter REALLY got me down. Between the new house, new job, new city, and un-ending Winter (can we blame Elsa ala FROZEN?), I'm sure some degree-holding psychology guru could have diagnosed me with seasonal-affective-whatever. And you know what? I <i>missed</i> writing. And I <i>missed </i>blogging. And I <i>missed </i>wearing clothes that made me feel like an individual and not a cog-on-the-wheel at work.<br />
<br />
But enough about that. I am SO excited to share with everyone the progress I've made on my humble nest (as I refer to my house at present). You guys, HOME OWNERSHIP IS SO MUCH FUN (mortgage, utilities, and home repairs aside). I have officially turned into my mother, who used to drag me into home decorating stores at the mall when I was little as I begged and whined for her to <i>just-leave-me-at-the-Disney Store-dammit</i>. Yes, there IS a Martha Stewart inside me, and she is well pleased.
So you have that to look forward to.<br />
<br />
For now though, here are just a couple shots of outfits I wore pre-POLAR VORTEX and never had the opportunity to post. Because, you know, laziness.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="1w" height="800" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3694/13591786605_16fd84d521_c.jpg" width="465" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't know what it is about me and birds, but if there are birds on something (be it dress, shirt, scarf, jewelry, kitchenware...virtually anything you can fit a bird on), then I MUST HAVE IT. I wore this dress (from DRESS BARN, on sale!) to a dear friend's wedding, which happened to be on the same day I got the keys to my new house. I'm looking forward to wearing it again come warmer weather, and may try belting it with a thicker belt. The built-in-belt really did nothing to flatter my curves. Oh well.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="4" height="800" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7375/13591800195_e067895a3f_c.jpg" width="495" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And THIS ensemble...I'm gonna be honest. I don't remember this day, or the occasion. There probably wasn't anything particularly special about the day I wore this, so not much else to say about THAT. The skirt I've had for ages (a hand-me-down from my older sister), and the shirt came from my trip to Thailand. And this scarf I wear with everything. Because it's perfect, and lovely, and would only be better if there were birds on it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you couldn't tell from this post, I'm also still on the Frozen obsession bandwagon. I've had a couple folks tell me that Anna is basically my doppelganger, between the red hair, bangs, and general awkwardness. I kind of love her, so I'm okay with the comparison. And it's true: I <i>am </i>awkward. But I like to think of it is an adorable sort of awkwardness, kind of endearing-like, in an "Oh look Megan messed up again, how cute" sort of way. (Except maybe it's not as endearing as I'd like to think, what with the whole failure-on-the-dating-front issue and all. But I digress. Can of worms...YOU SHUT YOUR LID.)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Until next time, friends: Remember to burn the good candles. Life's too short, and they smell so much better that way. Sometimes you just have to...LET IT GO.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
(Sorry...I couldn't resist.)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Dress: Old Navy (thrifted) | Belt: Thrifted | Leggings: Marshall's | Scarf: unknown</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">T-shirt: Zenana Outfitters (Thailand) | Boots: Tractor Supply Company</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I feel a little guilty for disappearing right after my miraculous return to life, but moving will do that...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That's right. I'm officially moved into my brand new house! Gosh it feels funny to type those words. <b><i>MY house</i></b>. But between working full time, painting, and moving...well, you can imagine I've had little time for much else. I actually went a good three weeks with no internet at all, which was frustrating to say the least. But as of a couple days ago, I am officially back online!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I plan on posting some photos of my new house in future posts. Decorating is one of my favorite things to do, so I'm hoping to highlight different rooms in my house as I complete them. As you can see from the last outfit photo above, I'm doing the Great Room in peacock blues...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The one down side to my new house? The closest Starbucks is 15 minutes away. TRAGIC, especially since I would do just about anything right now for a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Okay, so 15 minutes doesn't sound THAT bad, but when you're used to living 5 minutes away from caffeinated bliss...well, you see the problem. I guess my Keurig will have to do. Sigh.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Until next time!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Can plain old jean shorts ever be cute? These darned things have been sitting in my closet for several years and, I admit, they haven't gotten much wear. Today I decided I needed to either wear them or get rid of them. So naturally, I wore them. I also got my hair cut and colored this morning (FINALLY), so overall it has been a pretty good day so far...</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>What I'm Wearing:</i><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Top: Threads 4 Thought (via Maurices) | Shorts: Faded Glory | Shoes: Simply Vera </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Cat Pendant Necklace: Versona Accessories</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm feeling very sparkly in this outfit today, which isn't usually my style. Virtually everything I'm wearing has some kind of sparkle, from the sequins in the shoes, to the sparkles in the shirt detailing, and the rhinestones on my kitty pendant. It's actually kind of a fun change! For me, the jury's still out whether or not I hang onto these shorts. At least I got SOME wear out of them today! They have to EARN their keep in my closet, since I'm trying to "thin the herd" (so to speak) in anticipation of the move to my NEW HOUSE.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Speaking of the new house...I get the keys TOMORROW! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_jXR0z1s9-o/Uh_29Rl1luI/AAAAAAAABVk/Gme97kQHnJM/s1600/excited.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_jXR0z1s9-o/Uh_29Rl1luI/AAAAAAAABVk/Gme97kQHnJM/s1600/excited.gif" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I still can't believe it! I'm not sure how much posting I'll be able to do over the next several days, because I'll be spending a lot of time in the new house painting and moving smaller items over. Move-in weekend isn't until later on this September, but I'm planning on using the next couple of weeks to make it JUST the way I want it before I fill it with furniture.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The feline overlords will, I think, be well pleased with their new digs. For now they are sequestered upstairs in my parents' house (where I'm currently living), well away from the resident dogs. I think they'll appreciate having more room to roam!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In addition to getting my keys, I am also attending the wedding of an old, dear friend (we met when we were assigned as locker partners in the FIRST GRADE. How time flies!). Clearly the next few days are going to be eventful, to say the least! Does anyone else have any fun plans for this Labor Day weekend?<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am a TOTAL sucker for quirky t-shirts, and recently discovered a fabulous online store called <a href="http://www.skipnwhistle.com/" target="_blank">Skip N' Whistle</a> that sells some really cute, unique tops! As a crazy cat lady, I heartily approve of their selection of cat shirts. These are a few of my favorites from their current selection:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-G8MmZ6ytPsg/Uh6nLsP6ofI/AAAAAAAABTc/QVGKM5vJwf8/s640/blogger-image-839052014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-G8MmZ6ytPsg/Uh6nLsP6ofI/AAAAAAAABTc/QVGKM5vJwf8/s320/blogger-image-839052014.jpg" width="278" /></a><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-PcZ3pxIrTjo/Uh6nMxNWueI/AAAAAAAABTk/GrNi7WS7o08/s640/blogger-image-120467170.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-PcZ3pxIrTjo/Uh6nMxNWueI/AAAAAAAABTk/GrNi7WS7o08/s320/blogger-image-120467170.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm definitely going to have to purchase a few of these in the future. I mean, LOOK AT THAT CAT IN THE INDIAN HEADDRESS! How adorable is that?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I actually already have a few fun graphic tops in my closet right now (...but would LOVE to add a few more to my collection...CAT INDIAN HEADDRESS SWEATER, GET IN MY CLOSET!). I'm currently going through an owl phase, so I'm partial to this t-shirt <a href="http://fashionistavet.blogspot.com/2012/02/unexpected-owl.html" target="_blank">I wore in an outfit post last year:</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>
What I'm Wearing: </i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">T-shirt: Thrifted | Skirt: Vintage (thrifted) | Belt: Chiang Mai, Thailand Walking Street </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Tights: Stein Mart | Shoes: Blowfish Vance Booties
</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Owl + glasses = TOTAL ADORBS. Am I right?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Speaking of adorable, I'll leave you with this shot of Calvin and I cuddling in bed. Am I a lucky cat mom or what? Even if he DOES hog an entire side of the bed...</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Please note, I did not receive any financial compensation or merchandise from <a href="http://www.skipnwhistle.com/" target="_blank">Skip N' Whistle</a> for this post. Although if they decided to be kind and send me a cat shirt, I would love them forever. Just sayin'.<br />
<br />
EDIT: I just realized that Amy over at <a href="http://coffeebeansandbobbypins.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins</a> recently blogged about Skip N'Whistle, too! Check out <a href="http://coffeebeansandbobbypins.blogspot.com/2013/08/unicorns-sole-society-giveaway.html" target="_blank">her cute styling of the Unicorn t-shirt</a>. I love it!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
It has been a <i>really</i> long time since I last participated in "<a href="http://twobirdsboutique.blogspot.com/2013/08/inspiration-monday-life-lessons.html" target="_blank">Inspiration Monday</a>" over at <a href="http://www.twobirdsboutique.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Two Birds </a>(hosted by the lovely Megan and Nora). This week's inspiration post featured Selena Gomez, and as soon as I saw it I gasped. I may not have a military vest, but I *do* have a blouse that is in a similar style...<br />
AND I NEVER THOUGHT TO WEAR A BLOUSE LIKE THIS!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Oh Selena, you clever girl.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So without further ado, here's my more feminine take on Selena's style.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
I've been wearing this blouse buttoned up and tucked into slacks at work, so THANK YOU Inspiration Monday for providing me with a new way to wear this top! I actually rather like it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/69314276@N07/9587291886/" title="4 by Meggie1985, on Flickr"><img alt="4" height="433" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3691/9587291886_bd23acb4a4.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Today was your usual crazy Monday at the vet clinic. It's always busy on Mondays for some reason, and today was no exception. Cruciate tears, corneal ulcers, big-dog-little-dog attacks...you know, the usual. I'd love a good ol' kitten or puppy litter exam...where are THOSE when you need them? ;)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In other news, I've been taking FULL advantage of living with a piano again. There's nothing like de-stressing after a long day at work by banging away at the keyboard! I think I've finally gotten the hang of "He's a Pirate" from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. What do you think?</div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe frameborder="0" height="400" src="https://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=10103365421719815" width="300"></iframe><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My next piano project will be "Concerning Hobbits" from The Lord of the Rings. Yeah...my inner nerd is showing a little bit here...but Howard Shore's musical score is seriously fantastic! I'll post a video once I'm semi-competent at it. Do any of my readers play any instruments?</div>

Today I'm rocking my <a href="http://fashionistavet.blogspot.com/2013/08/feathers-and-sequins-and-stealsoh-my.html" target="_blank">new necklace from Maurices</a>. Also, I've discovered that my camera and I do NOT get along outside; most of these photos came out way too bright. Sigh.</div>
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/69314276@N07/9584055743/" title="4 by Meggie1985, on Flickr"><img alt="4" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7438/9584055743_a39fa36db4.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have a confession to make...I have a fetish. Not just any fetish...a CAT PAW fetish! Seriously, is there anything cuter than cat paws? And I'll let you in on a little random factoid: cats sweat through their paw pads! They do this both when they're warm (and need to cool down), AND when they're nervous. Just like when you or I get sweaty palms when we're nervous about something, cats get sweaty palms too! Isn't that adorable?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">GAH!! Too cute!!!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">In other news, today I discovered that Stephen Moyer (of True Blood fame) can sing. He has been chosen to perform opposite Carrie Underwood in the live <a href="http://www.broadway.com/buzz/171350/true-bloods-stephen-moyer-to-star-opposite-carrie-underwood-in-live-tv-broadcast-of-the-sound-of-music/" target="_blank">NBC broadcast of "The Sound of Music"</a> as none other than Captain von Trapp. Originally I was worried, until I found these gems from Stephen's run as Billy Flynn in Chicago last month:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="225" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/TnO7jL_b8rQ" width="400"></iframe>

<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="225" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/gR2PPNxPe8U" width="400"></iframe>
</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
By the way, he was part of a cast that included Ashlee Simpson (as Roxy), Samantha Barks (as Velma), Drew Carey (as Amos), and Lucy Lawless (XEEEEEEENA! Ahem. I mean, as Mama Morton). Ordinarily I'd be annoyed by Hollywood names in musicals like Chicago, but this? This I would see.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have to admit though, I am a little worried about Carrie Underwood playing Maria in "The Sound of Music". Girl can sing, but hopefully she can leave the country twang out of Do-Re-Me. What do you think?</div>

I am currently obsessed with tank blouses...seriously. I purchased a whole bunch of them from TJ Maxx right after graduation and have worn them almost daily to work. Because I wear a white lab coat, these light weight fashionable blouses are PERFECT to wear tucked into a nice pair of slacks. Now I've also begun wearing them with shorts or skinny jeans on my days off, and they have QUICKLY become my favorite go-to tops! I love the playful feather pattern on this particular blouse - it goes with so many different outfit combinations! (P.S. My shoes are covered in black SEQUINS. I wish they showed up better in the photos, but you can take my word...they're pretty awesome.) <a href="http://hellolupi.blogspot.com/2013/05/who-is-ready-for-long-weekend-this-girl.html" target="_blank">See how another fashion blogger styled this top here.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
Today I spent the morning meeting with my insurance agent (boooooring) and then doing a little shopping around town with my mom. <a href="http://www.maurices.com/home/index.jsp" target="_blank">Maurice's</a> is one of my favorite stores, and I managed to walk out with nothing more than this adorable necklace which was marked down to $4.99. Talk about a steal! (<span style="text-align: center;">And of course Calvin decided he wanted in on the photo taking action. Thanks, buddy.)</span></div>

I plan on spending the rest of my evening relaxing, gearing up for a full day of work tomorrow. Wednesday is my surgery day, so I'll probably do a little studying in preparation for tomorrow morning's procedures. Surgery and anesthesia still make me a little nervous as a new grad, so I want to be on top of my game. Enjoy your evening, friends!<br />

I'm relishing this day off as an opportunity to wear a skirt. Unfortunately skirts are pretty much the most impractical thing you could choose to wear as a veterinarian in practice. I spend a LOT of time on the ground, at my patients' level, in an effort to make them feel more comfortable with me. After all, I'm a stranger in a white lab coat smelling of other creatures...NOT the most inviting thing in the universe to a dog or cat!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Earlier today my parents and I took a lovely bike ride through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (which required me to change into shorts...but I digress). I am so incredibly lucky to live close to such a national treasure, and it felt WONDERFUL to be outside! </div>

Tomorrow I have a couple tough cases waiting for me at work, thus I am determined to enjoy every single second of this Sunday! I plan on spending my evening watching the TRUE BLOOD season finale. Hey, we all have our guilty pleasures, right? RIGHT? ;) </div>

<br />
So much has happened since my last post, I'm not even sure where to begin. I'm in the middle of one of THOSE periods in life... You know. A time when pretty much everything changes. In the whirlwind of these past few months I've hardly had time to breathe, much less update. Which is sad, because I SO love this blog and the community of bloggers I've met through it!<br />
<br />
But that's the great thing about the internet, yes? That I can always return, and this little corner of the internet will always be mine to shape and create? So hello there.<br />
<br />
And now, it's time for MEGAN'S SUPER LIFE UPDATE PHOTO EXTRAVAGANZA!<br />
<br />
1) I graduated in May. Dream achieved. I'M A VETERINARIAN!!!!!!!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cp8rtck2Hbk/Ugwctud75bI/AAAAAAAABQM/zh3a1I2ACRg/s1600/calmegrad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cp8rtck2Hbk/Ugwctud75bI/AAAAAAAABQM/zh3a1I2ACRg/s200/calmegrad.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2) After graduating, I spent a week in Cancun, Mexico celebrating it up with my sister. In our case, that meant lots of time sitting on the beach, reading. In the shade. Because we both burn in the sun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

3) After Cancun, it was time to pack up my apartment and move back to my hometown. This meant a lot of heart wrenching good-byes, as I had to farewell so many incredible friends. I mean, how often do you find an incredible group of people who not only accept you unconditionally, but also throw awesome spy-themed birthday parties?</div>

4) Moving back to my hometown meant moving back in with my parents. Which means I have new roommates.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My cats are less than thrilled about the move, especially since Brighton really does NOT get along with them. I, however, try to make it up to them every chance I get. So if you see a crazy lady out walking a cat, don't worry about it. It's probably me.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5) I started my new job at a small animal veterinary hospital in June...and I've loved pretty much every second of it. <3</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6) Oh yeah. I also bought a house. Closing is in three weeks, and I'm super-incredibly-extremely stressed out about it. But how blessed am I, seriously?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Between graduating, moving, starting a new job, and buying a house...I've been a little busy. So what's new in YOUR life? :)</div>

Sort of.Hi there, world... remember me? After dropping off the face of the planet for the past several months, I decided it was high time I re-visit my little corner of the internet. Clinics have kept me incredibly busy, as have the holidays, but I truly miss fashion blogging! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
To get back into the swing of things here at Fashionista Vet, here are TWO outfits. The first one is actually from this past summer, one of the last outfits I managed to snap a photo of before the cold came, and the second is an outfit I recently put together.</div>

<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: start;">Anyhoo, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! My family had a super crazy get-together, involving an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest, battle shots, and finally a small fire in the dining room. It was eventful, to say the least! </span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Dress: Victoria's Secret (thrifted) | Tank Top: Angel City, local boutique | Sandals: Easy Spirit, DSW | Earrings: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/Mindiemay" target="_blank">TLC Creations </a> | Necklace: Gift from friend | Sunglasses: Gucci knock-offs</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I do enjoy sleeveless dresses...but I do NOT enjoy the perils that go with wearing sleeveless dresses, as a lady with...erm, shall we say, NOT much going for her "up there." So to make myself feel better (as well as to avoid any unfortunate wardrobe malfunctions), I like to pair sleeveless dresses with cute tank tops. That way I'm not constantly worried about giving everyone a free show (if you know what I mean)! Although it may not be the MOST fashionable, comfort is my number one priority.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Tomorrow I'm headed up north to spend the week with my family and to attend my cousin's wedding. Unlike this past week, in which I had copious amounts of time to update, I probably won't be posting much. Hopefully I'll get some good shots of my dress at the wedding - I am still super excited about the dress I am wearing, which I found ON SALE at Marshall's! <br /><br />And of course, the kitties will be coming with me. Luckily, they're actually pretty good in the car...<br />Now if only they'd behave so well at home! :)</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It has been sitting in my wardrobe taunting me to find something better to go with it. I ultimately decided that I didn't care for the look I pulled together back in March, so tackled it once again today. This time I opted to go with a skinny belt and plain tank-top, and then "blinged it out" with two different necklaces. Here's the result: (Along the way, I also discovered that I have been in a very serious mood for my photos these days...)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/69314276@N07/7685971412/" title="1 by Meggie1985, on Flickr"><img alt="1" height="800" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8156/7685971412_dac272b215_b.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Super serious. My eyes can peer into your souuuuuuul. Mwuahahaha.</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The ONLY picture on my camera in which I am smiling. See? I'm a happy girl!<br />
<br />
<i style="font-size: medium;">What I'm Wearing: </i><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Skirt: Vintage (thrifted) | Tank Top: St. John's Bay (JC Penny) | Jewelry: Necklaces and bracelet are vintage hand-me-downs from my grandma | Shoes: Tahari (DSW, </span><a href="http://www.dsw.com/shoe/tahari+alyssa+wedge+sandal?prodId=237504&cm_mmc=affil-_-ShopStyle.com-_-main-_-main" style="font-size: small;" target="_blank">shop here</a><span style="font-size: x-small;">) | Belt: Thrifted | Sunglasses: Gucci knock-offs (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Overall, I like this look much more than March's look. I am also thoroughly obsessed with these new shoes, since they seem to go with anything and everything. Hooray for neutral wedges!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Yesterday I finally made it to the salon for a haircut. I had an inch and a half taken off, and am just thrilled to have HEALTHY hair again. There's nothing quite like a haircut to perk up a girl's spirits!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Today is August 1st, which means it's time for a new VETERINARY CAUSE OF THE MONTH! Aren't you excited? This month is...(drumroll please)...</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span><b><span style="font-size: large;">National Immunization Awareness Month!</span></b></span></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3SeMEgjQzbo/UBWOw1z9vFI/AAAAAAAABGM/5y5T-3u7-AY/s1600/vaccinate2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3SeMEgjQzbo/UBWOw1z9vFI/AAAAAAAABGM/5y5T-3u7-AY/s1600/vaccinate2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The purpose of vaccines is to PREVENT DISEASE. There are many viruses that dogs and cats can be exposed to that can be dangerous, if not deadly! When kittens and puppies are born, their immune systems are considered naive. That is, they have never been exposed to any bacteria or viruses, so their bodies have developed no defense mechanisms to fight them off. Mom's milk provides some protection against the "bugs" they may be exposed to, but this immunity starts to disappear at 5 to 6 weeks of age. This is why it's so important to bring your puppy or kitten to the veterinarian to start vaccinations!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Your veterinarian will develop a vaccination program that fits your pet's lifestyle and exposure risk. Not every animal needs every single vaccine, so your vet will ask you a series of questions to determine what your pet needs. Now that I've started seeing clients and treating animals, the importance of vaccines has become even MORE evident to me. You can't imagine how frustrating it is when I see a puppy dying of Parvovirus, when it could have been prevented with a simple vaccine!<br /><br />So don't wait...vaccinate!</span></div>

This was another skirt I found at the thrift store that I carried around with me for awhile before ultimately deciding to buy. I couldn't decide whether or not it was a bit TOO dated! In the end though, I thought I'd give it a try. This is the first time I've worn it, and I have to say...I kind of like the look! After all, pleats are in, right?<br />
<br />
(By the way, I really need to take pictures BEFORE the sun hits my patio...it makes it a bit challenging to get good shots of my outfit. Sorry, readers!) <br />
<br />
Just so ya'll know, I was totally rocking the side braid WAY before Katniss Everdeen came along. ;) It has truly become my "go-to" hairstyle on days I just don't have the energy to blow-dry my hair. Which reminds me, my cousin's wedding is coming up on August 11th and I am in desperate need of a haircut. I decided to try trimming my bangs on my own last week and...well...they need help. It's just such a PAIN stopping at the hair salon for a bang trim! Sometimes trimming them on my own works out, but other times...not so much. So it's off to the salon I go.<br />
<br />
Yesterday a grand total of ZERO research work was accomplished. It's time to buckle down and WORK! Does anyone have any motivation I could borrow?<br />

Today is MONDAY, which means my return to the blog-o-sphere is JUST in time for <a href="http://twobirdsboutique.blogspot.com/2012/07/inspiration-monday-henry.html" target="_blank">Two Birds' Inspiration Monday</a>! This week's challenge is a doozy, featuring the lovely Miss Ashlee Simpson in red (LEATHER) shorts, a flowing blouse, and boots. She can rock this look like no other...so what's a girl like me to do?</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ashlee Simpson, being awesome.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I mentioned in my last post...I hate shorts. Consequently I own precious few, and I DEFINITELY don't own any RED shorts. So today I opted for my favorite pair of shorts (which featured in yesterday's post, unfortunately) and a loose blouse, figuring I could at least stick with the blouse+shorts theme. And of course, as a hats-off to Miss Simpson, I untucked one side of the blouse. ;)</div>

Ashlee's outfit has the whole "night out on the town" vibe going on. Mine is a bit more laid back... Maybe it's time to go shopping for a pair of red shorts? DARE I try to pull off THAT look? Hm.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
Today kicks off my first day of "vacay", and I will be spending it working on my research project from my trip last summer to Thailand. It's hard to believe that last year, at this time, I was exploring Chiang Mai...<br />
<br />
I miss Thailand.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Hello my poor neglected fashion blog...remember me? Clinics have literally taken over my life, leaving me little time to do "real person" things like eating, sleeping, and (alas) blogging. Some rotations have been better than others, but overall I am enjoying the experience and learning SO much! These days I am mostly in scrubs, and since I work from sun-up to sundown (literally) I usually go from scrubs to shower to bed. Not a pretty life for this wannabe-fashionista!<br />
<br />
Thankfully I am now on a two week, much-needed vacation! So I thought, what better way to kick-off my break than to update my little corner on the web? So here I am!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What's on my mind today? Well, quite a few things actually...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1) I have a confession to make: I hate shorts. I hate shorts because I hate my legs. So the fact that I wore shorts today, AND posted pictures on the internet for the world to see, is something of a miracle. It probably won't happen again peeps, so this is it: proof that I own shorts and do occasionally wear them.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2) The fashion magazines these days are telling us that <span style="font-family: inherit;"><em style="font-style: normal; line-height: 17.77777862548828px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">ÜBER</em><span style="color: #222222; line-height: 17.77777862548828px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"> </span></span>straight hair is in this summer. Unfortunately I have naturally wavy hair that is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to straighten, particularly in the summer! So this is one fashion trend I'm going to have to sit out...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3) Shakespeare is pretty awesome...and Shakespeare outside is even awesome-er (HUZZAH for making up words!). Last evening, some friends and I attended a local performance of "The Merchant of Venice" outside, under the stars, on blankets and pillows, with picnic food in hand. This was one Shakespeare play I was unfamiliar with, and I must say...I really enjoyed it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dEUzLr80F6g/UBWK5Bz6HGI/AAAAAAAABFk/VOWnX7r8o84/s1600/merchant.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dEUzLr80F6g/UBWK5Bz6HGI/AAAAAAAABFk/VOWnX7r8o84/s1600/merchant.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">"All that glitters is not gold..."</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4) My cat is adorable. Just sayin'.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eu5WfBsEtPs/UBWLEd0xtuI/AAAAAAAABFs/GJxNUHTjcsY/s1600/abby.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eu5WfBsEtPs/UBWLEd0xtuI/AAAAAAAABFs/GJxNUHTjcsY/s1600/abby.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5) I'm currently waiting for my apricot chicken to finish cooking (recipe from <a href="http://www.sixsistersstuff.com/2012/01/slow-cooker-apricot-chicken-recipe.html" target="_blank">Six Sisters' Stuff</a>) and thinking about how much my closet needs organized. It is SCARY in there!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's it for now! Hopefully my next update will be sooner rather than later...I miss blogging so much!</div>
